Saturday discussions at The Exonerated

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

Please join us at TheatreWorks for powerful discussions following each Saturday performance of the run of The Exonerated. We welcome audiences to listen to experts discuss the difficult and emotional issues surrounding the judicial system, racial issues within that system, and the death penalty, and to express their opinions on these matters in an open panel-discussion environment.

  • January 6 - Conversation with Tennessee Coalition to Abolish State Killing (TCASK) Associate Director Alex Wiesendanger. Mr. Wiesendanger will be speaking about the current status of the death penalty in Tennessee as it relates to issues in the play, and the efforts of TCASK to establish a moratorium on the death penalty.
  • January 13 - Legal discussion on the death penalty and DNA evidence, headed by Paul Guibao, an attorney with show sponsor The Law Firm of Paul Guibao. Fellow attorneys will debate the pros and cons of the death penalty and discuss the issues brought forth in the production.
  • January 20 - Q&A with Mara Leveritt, critically acclaimed author of Devil’s Knot, a journalistic account of the harrowing West Memphis Three case. Ms. Leveritt will share her expertise of our regions’ legal system pulling from her own extensive experience researching the West Memphis Three case.
  • January 27 - Panel discussion with representatives from Memphis’ own National Civil Rights Museum on the reality of racial issues in our judicial system.
