Theatre Education

Born in 1985, Playhouse on the Square’s Theatre for Youth Program now serves close to 30,000 young people every year in Memphis, Shelby County and beyond. From preschoolers to young adults, they all are engaged and enlightened, either as audience members or as active participants.

Summer Youth Theatre Conservatory

Playhouse on the Square's Summer Youth Theatre Conservatory is open to any student interested in theatre regardless of experience. All of the courses are taught by professional artists. Self-esteem is of primary importance to our program. Theatre is the perfect environment for a child to find his/her voice. After School Acting Program (ASAP)

Founded in 1998, the After School Acting Program has grown to include sites throughout Memphis and the surrounding area. ASAP is recommended for children age 7-12. Classes meet for 1½ hours, twice a week for twelve weeks. Instruction in the elements of Acting, Improvisation, Movement, Music, and Design are taught through a Style of Theatre. More...

Teens In Theatre (TNT)

Teens In Theatre provides a performance and learning venue for 12-17 year olds from around the MidSouth. Teens must audition to be in the troupe, which performs at various sites in the Fall and in the Spring. There is a membership fee of $100.00 to participate. More...

Theatre School/Adult Theatre School

Classes in Creative Dramatics (ages 5-11), Musical Theatre (8-17), Theatrical Dance (5-11), and Acting for Film and TV (8-17) are available for students on Saturdays. Classes begin March 8 and run for 8 weeks with a showcase performance for friends and family on May 3 at 10am. Students 16 through adult will have the opportunity to explore Acting for the Camera, Beginner Acting and Advanced, Monday and Tuesday nights beginning March 24 and run for 8 weeks. Playhouse on the Square, The Circuit Playhouse, and the Playhouse on the Square Touring Company would like to invite you and your students to experience professional live theatre this school year. From Peter Pan to Disney's Aladdin to Medea to Cat on a Hot Tin Roof to Seussical to Alexander, Who is Not Not Not Not Not Not Going To Move, there is something for all ages, and all forms of study.
